Being in his line of work, I would have thought he has traders insurance so is legally covered. Would make sense seen as he is fixing faults on peoples cars 
Also what Sam said, Most people on here wouldn't have even confronted the driver. Probably would have just phoned the garage the next morning

you could prove with the garage invoice that they has possension of the car at the time of the offence, but to have trade insurance to drive it they would have to have it booked in on their system, but even then they shouldn't be able to drive in under company insurance out of hours. and im sure with trade insurance you have to text the reg num to your insurance or ring them to put it on,

My old trader policy allowed me to drive any car for social domestic and pleasure. So long as it was booked in. Most cover sole traders/directors for the same.
Bit of a piss take doing what he did in it but at least he is sorting it for you foc now!
