Just over yes. 62k with fsh. Brand new MOT, taxed till July, 12 month warranty (not a great use though tbh as cover on a 10 y/o car isn't much!) and a tank of fuel to get me home. New brakes last year and new michelin tyres that have covered 1k miles.

No it's not. Valve clearances take a fair bit of time. And the parts alone are round £3-400 so what about labour cost on top?

Looks great Rich!

Do you think a garage buys a new shim kit for each car? Bit retarded

I watched john-ds get done by a freind of ours who has 15 years dealer experiance before opening his specialist. He has an e90 m3 himself and has garage is brimmed with ///Ms....

There's no sense in arguing Graham, inspII is a complete con, parts cost £10 and it takes 15mins. Just the man trying to have you over.

JohnD/Taylorboosh: so you got a mate to do a service and he charged you less?

Excellet proof is excellent

How much does that guy charge on Cutters for doing the valve clearances? Everyone raves about him but never found out

Really then if you haven't got a comfortable bank balance don't bother buying an M3?

Mate got 15mpg out of his before he sold it. That's awful in today's world IMO. Our Daughters godfather gets 30 on a run in his Panamera Turbo FFS

As ive said before for the performance they arent TOO bad to run if your smart..

Genuine discs are about £1k but you can get pattern jobbies which are from the same manufacturer for £500.

You can pay £1k for a service or ask around and get advice on which indys are good, then pay £4-500.

They are what you make them tbh

Outside of the missing stamp, is there anything in a service that a normal mechanic couldn't do?

I averaged 22mpg in mine, best was 32mpg & worst late teens, 18 I think.

Think its the best all round car ive had & would get another. Forget about dealer SH & 'it must have a run in service & TV/NAV' internet tripe. But on condition at this age.

Plenty to choose from, some dogs but a lot of good ones also!!

The z4m guys masturbate over the running in service. Same engine as the e46 m3, so why is it so important?

Surely after 6 years, any problems would've shown up?

Voids the warranty if it wasnt done (think ive heard of 1or2 cars that missed it), so 10yr old car obviously doesnt matter.

Its just internet ///M spunk talk, same with saying it MUST have the ancient and crap TV/HK.

If the opportunity of a property goes through in 2013 it means I will be able to do a ten minute walk to work and.have thought about something like an M3 or.other cars that would only be used at the weekend.

Nope not at all. But experience with the model is important looking for overall common problems but tbh any competent mechanic can do it. It's just a car.

Mine never had running in service (E46) and was 100% perfect. Knocking on for 80k then too.
