Did coolant change today and a few other small jobs, first was replace the checkmate decals on the side as they were peeling at the edges and looked tatty

How it looks without the decals, some people may prefer, i think it looks a bit bare when you are used to something being there

heres the new genuine bmw decal set

I basically used the same techniques id learnt from the vinyls on the puma to apply these, here they are post applied, much neater than the peeling ones before

3l of BM coolant, for a 50/50 mix bringing total to 6l

Now the mini cooling system is renowned for being difficult to drain fully, with only pretty much whats in the rad actually coming out the system, so I went to wickes and picked up this wet vac for 30 quid

Then disconnected the bottom rad hose to first for a gravity drain

this was collected

then i attached the wet vac to the expansion tanked and sucked what was in that side of the system out

And the bottom hose

sucked about the same amount out again, so goes to show just dropping it out still leaves quite a bit in there

Two bleed screws on this system so let warm up whilst topping up the coolant and bleeding and job done

Not a chance in hell, I remember following Andy around the GP track and left me for dust.

Hiya

Another wash and wax, had the only mark on the rear bumper repaired at bmw today, cant see it anymore, they touched in the stone chips on the front too, car is spotless now.

Two new rear continental sport contact 3's for the rear too. Intercooler should arrive this week

Cleaned up the steering wheel and the handbrake grip from all the foundation shite that was in it, it looked worn but actually was just that shite off the previous owners hands, bet she stunk, come up like new

1320 tomorrow for the following

Remove and Inspect Spark Plugs
Check Oil and Water Level
Check Condition Of Bypass Valve
Perform and Report Leakdown Test To Owner

If Leakdown test is ok, carry on
Remove Stock Pulley
Supply and Fit KMT Pulley Size Of Your Choice (11%, 13.20%, 15%, 16% or 17%)
Supply and Fit Correct Size Belt
Fit New NGK Spark Plugs
Reset ECU Adaptations Using Specialist Software
Perform Rolling Road Test, Checking Horsepower, Torque and Air Fuel Ratios
Test Drive

unsure on wether to get 15% or 16% pulley

Intercooler isnt here yet so will have to fit that after, anyone fancy a meet?

Back, went for 16% pulley in the end.

Car was healthy to with 5's and 6's across the board on leakdown test.

Not really bothered about BHP figures but car made just under 190bhp at the wheels. Might make 5 or so more when the GRS intercoolers on.

Car feels noticably quicker to drive, noticed a lot more improvement from this then when I got my Leon remapped.

I haven't had my pulley fitted yet but I did my intercooler and noticed it pulls alot more freely from around 3k.
Should hopefully see more than another 5 from it, but its just pub talk at the end of the day.
More importantly its how it drives.
What exhaust you going for?
Did they do a before run on the dyno?

No because I told them I wasn't bothered about bhp figures haha.

As long as leak down was healthy I was happy.

Took it out yesterday evening and it's deffo made a fair bit of difference far more than I was expecting

Doing this makes more difference than remapping a turbo

Thats because most people are only interested in massaging their egos and earning pub points rather then finding out some sort of semi accurate figures.

I wouldnt have cared twice if they didnt run it at all, but they had to to adjust fueling

Iv never really understood the fascination with fly hp anyway, it could be making 1000bhp at the fly, but if its only putting 80bhp at the wheels its not going to be very fast is it.

Id be concerend thats some loss though

I know what you're saying but it makes it difficult to judge the gains from standard IMO.

I think most people go off fly figures as it gives a clearer indication as to how well the modifications have responded over the standard output.

Not wanting to know sounds a bit arrogant too. Damn right i would want to know that it was healthy and making the correct figures for the modifications.

You might have been happy knowing the difference from the way it drove, but you wouldn't be happy if it was making less power than what it should have been.
