I do get that argument. But what's his biggest spent? £15m? That's around the value of a squad player at United. And he's not exactly experienced in the Champions League. The quality of players needed to win the Premier League and Champions League is on another level entirely to what he's used to.
Difficult man's shoes to fill. Lets be honest, whoever was to replace him at any point would divide fans opinion. Think whoever eventually comes in is likely to be in for a rough time, hell even he has had it rough at times with fans and the press on his back but he is big enough to ride it out.

Has it been confirmed? Cos the BBC Sport site seem to be running with it as though it's gospel

Might not happen now but when it does it will be the biggest managerial appointment in football history. Poisoned chalice if you ask me, no fucker will match what he did. Youre on a hiding to nowhere.
Be interesting to see if fans have the patience or if they will be calling for the new guys head in 6 months though.

I know it's hard to discuss this because I'm obviously biased but united don't seem the type to boo and protest against their own team (glazers is a different matter). Even when we have crap seasons we don't whinge about it and demand new things, we just let united get on with it knowing it'll be sorted. I would hate to be a Chelsea fan with a different manager every season!
Like I said earlier though, IF this is true which I'm hoping is not the case and still don't believe it, then mourinho is the one coming. The reaction from the Chelsea fans would kind of make things better

Glad he's retiring before he either gets too old and loses it or gets too old to enjoy his retirement.
See ya United

Massive news! He'll have a massive say in his replacement. Not sure why people assume United will be fucked now though. Not like they won't get in a decent name and they still have millions to spend.

Certainly going to be the biggest transfer(ish) news of the summer. Fuck trying to fill his boots.

Fergie IS United. I honestly reckon they drop away a bit, even with Maureen in charge.

On TS they were trying to say Maureen could go to United with no worry, beacuse if it goes wrong, Chelsea would still take him!!!! Yeah okay!!

Moved upstairs to be director of football, and ambassador for the club. So now I could see it being Moyes. But he doesn't fit the worldwide brand thesis, so mourinho would be more likely, but I don't think it'll be him either...especially not with Rinaldo. But I may be wrong

Crazy, total respect.
They could pick from Mourinho, Moyes, Heynckes et al but I'd go with what ben D said and do a Barca, put Mike Phelan in charge for the first year and see how it works out - stability is what that club will need to weather what will presumably be a very difficult yera next season. IMO. However, given the timing and availability of Mourinho/Moyes etc., I don't know whether they would want to do that but maybe Wenger and Pep aside, there is no top manager in world football that they couldn't lure from any position

I would have liked one more Arsenal v United battle for title tbh. AW v Fergie.

Tbf to him though he has made sure he has left the squad at its very best. He's always said he would do and he has made sure this won't be the end of United.

True. Going to be a huge summer! Surely they must have ideas in place. Fergie wouldn't stitch them up.
