What's stopping you using a makeshift mesh type of thing. Just make one out of 2mm ally sheet and drill a shit loads of holes in it and properly secure it. Best of both worlds then surely?
I personally wouldn't like to take the risk of building an engine and something so easily prevented causing it to fuck up.

really cant see the point in running no filter on this , fitting a proper one is only going to loose 1/2 bhp and could save the engine , i only dont run one as it would loose me 30/40 bhp but there will be a filter on it all the time till it goes to the burnout area and straight back on at the end of the run

if thats the case then when people fit proper air filters to 300bhp standard cars do they loose power? no , its because a cheap ebay filter was used ,

This runs in the 12's ??!??! What on earth has been done to it to get that quick? What terminal speed?
Must have a much better launch / 60ft than normal to get that quick if not running fairly high power.
Cant really remember now but I think I could only manage 13.7 or something with a 200bhp lightweight XE

Thats a good point for launching it, but you then have to carry it up the rest of the strip Lighter is nearly always better

12.95 @ 104.5mph with a badly slipping XE clutch. 0-60 4.2seconds so room to improve... 8.26 at the 1/8 and 1.8680 60ft
its practically stock... G inlet cams, fse reg, 3l lower divider, TTV xe flywheel, f20.
13.7 is good from a XE but if its running 200bhp you must have some weight in it...
my mate got a 13.7 the same day out of a completely stock XE corsa... only thing it has is a fse reg

12.9 at 105..
Wait a minute...
I was doing 13.7 or so at 105/106 with 2.0/2.1 60fts.
How on earth do those times work
13.7 on a standard XE whheeet
I'm I losing a second somewhere

See I can hit mid 130 terminals same as what bigron did at pod running 10.6 yet I do 12.0 as its the surface difference.

yup, big difference in grip for the first bit.... must make a huge difference with your power, no so on an XE that will stop spinning 20m or so up the strip

i have the reaction time of a dead snail... need to work on that!!
there was our mate with a 4 door nova with a very similar spec 2.5 v6 in there the same day and he couldn't get it lower that a 13.5... i honestly think my exhaust has made the world of difference, no silencers or anything, just strate out the side, no back pressure... it loves it
i could probs work on the fueling... its not ideal, its probs a bit on the rich side low down the revs but lean high up... hence why i said in a previous thread that a wideband may be required...
few other tweaks to come from the engine over the winter i think too.... spending all my money on getting it out to use at the min

yet the worst one of that day (the one with the foam from a b.new hks replica type air filter stuffed up inside the air intake pipe agaist the mesh of the afm) was a 18.5 yet my reaction time was 1.0168 (which i can only put down to the fact the clutch was still b.new at that point haha)
