Not sure I'd be bothered rationing fuel just in case someone stole the car.
You can have the money for it, just keep the receipt and tell the insurer you want paid.
If someone breaks in to my house, I'll weigh it up, if it looks like I'll take them down I might give it a go but its more likely they'd get away with it. More fuel means they can go faster and there's a higher likelihood of fire when they crash. So yeah, not fivers.

Keeping minimum fuel in the car on the off chance someone steals it
In the case of what happened to mine, it wouldn't run so they stole another car from across the road to tow it.
Simple answer is if they want it they will get it.

Kind of surprised at all the people posting on a public website exactly where they keep the keys to their car and how easy it would be to steal.
At least nobody would want to nick mine

this - they put false plates on the cars anyway so doesn't stop them from refueling

Lol same here, I took it as if someone stole your car they wouldn't get very far because you dont keep much fuel in it. Not that you internationally keep it low for this reason

I'm sorry to say but if not found by now they will be stripped or on false plates, it took a few days to get the japspeed Subaru back and that was a very high profile theft from a car show so its very likely you will never see either car again

Yeah but there was plenty of 350z's patrolling the area to retrieve the Scooby. Maybe that's what the police need to invest in. 350z's for all officers.

Although costly, the best way to deter thieves will be better home security. Or other obstacles that will make the task of taking the keys harder and louder. Even then you hear stories about them disguising themselves as police, pulling you over, and beating you up for you ride!

Fucking awful that is mate.
In regard to your sleep with your keys thing. My cars aren't that good. But I just leave the keys by the front door (out of view of the letterbox).
I figure if a scumbag comes in looking for car keys I don't want them traipsing around my house. That's my worst nightmare someone being in my home.

Still no news so guess they're gone
Just found out my excess on VXR is £1100
How do they go about valuations? I bought the VXR new so haven't the receipt(16k) and it had a few extras plus the mileage was low for a 5 year old car
The astra I got 6 months ago paid a bit over(8k) but again mileage was low and it was fully loaded with extras have dealers receipt

£1100 theft? Or damage? Hopefully lower than that for non-fault.

they'll use glass' guide or CAP average probably mate, to start with. have details to hand of a few similar examples on autotrader and what theyre going for. be prepared to haggle the price up as they'll kick you in the nuts, hard, to start with. Well, historically, this is what will happen.
