A £500 car from an auction will get you to work and back.

I couldn't throw 20k on a car, i just couldn't do it. I feel a bit sick when i look at how much money i have blown over the years on things i didn't need or in some cases didn't even use.

Look forward to see what you get in the end

How not practical can you get away with? Hatchback will be much better than any of the 2 seaters. Boxster was a pita if you were out somewhere not intending to buy anything big, but ended up getting something.

Looking at the Cayman, you can get a lot in if it's packed properly, the combined space is 415 litres, that's half the boot in the Volvo and we wen away for a week using half the boot in that.

Clio 182 will be better than a scirocco purely based on the fact it's a tenth of the cost and probably more fun.

At that budget I'd rule out a C63. Just wouldn't feel comfortable sticking money into something so expensive with 50k + miles! Guess if you do your homework you know what to expect. How about SL55 AMG? A little older, perhaps less miles for same price as C63 and roof off motoring for sunny days with that fantastic soundtrack!

M3 sounds a good choice, great cars, can get something a little newer, less miles etc. maybe go saloon too as a little more practical.

Great position to be in, fair play for spending rather than saving/investing!

But you'd put it on a property that you don't need, or use...

Not a lot in my price range does that with the exception of a Lotus Carlton or a Z3M Coupe.

Focus' are still losing money the same as anything else. RS4 may be holding value now but they'll drop again. Nothing modern holds value this side of £35k

Drove a new one last Sunday and it was awesome but I can't afford it. Seriously considering a Coupe as a 'sensible' choice though.
