It was a 1.8t which being to 225 had a k04 turbo - i thought it was pretty fast at the time - soo much faster than my 220 bhp mk4 so probably mapped - like i say in the wet if driving fast the rear end did step out

This is probably why it's got such a (seemingly unfairly) bad name.
If you've spun the car you're driving well outside of your capabilities.
I'm no driving god I admit..
But surely I'm driving outside the cars grip abilities...
I drove my track car on track much harder than my s3 on track and never had any major moments I can recall, certainly didn't swap ends.
S3's (8l) are known for being very snappy on the limit, never let off mid corner either swap ends in no time with abit of lift off over steer.

So what are you suggesting, the rear drive is introduced and produces sufficient torque to step the back out?
Short wheel base and lifting off on shit tyres would feel similar.

No im suggesting dumping power to rear wheels while accelerating around a bend can get the car to step out...
I never once ended up backwards btw

I'm still not convinced its entirely down to the design of the 4x4 system, you'd need to overcome all the understeer for a start.

How do you 'dump power' to the rear wheels on a FWD car?
I'm still thinking this is an issue located between seat and throttle.

We're all forgetting this was a John D car, more than likely a complete nail with a knackered Haldex on part worn remoulds.

Also, wasn't there some sort of recall on early TT's for an oversteer issue?
Edit, yup, lift off oversteer, clear driver error IMO

They were recalled though, hence why they all now have spoilers. If it has a spoiler, it also has the other mods so the oversteer issue isn't that.
