Fully agree. It's all down to bragging rights. No normal girl or fella knows the difference between a £500 and a £5000 ring. I bet half of these blokes tell their mrs how much they paid and the other half inflate the price to their friends knowing it will worm it's way back.

I got my mrs engagement ring from Tiffanys and it was the cheapest they had in the shop.
I said she can has a h Samuel special or a one time offer of a Tiffanys one.
Also spend what can be afforded. I could only afford £1500 or there abouts.
She now has the full set of engagement, wedding and eternity ring all from Tiffanys.
I keep telling her if I get short of money I will chop her finger off and sell the fuckers.

It's only bragging rights if you go around disclosing the price to everybody, every second and minute of the day.
I spend X amount on my non materialistic girl because it makes me happy She's worth it
I think there's a lot of bitter relationships here

If you read the first post, Rob asked how much people spent.
I said what we did. A few people in this thread have paid way more than we did, so I'm hardly willy waving!
Spending thousands on buying a car and modding it is cool and non-meterialistic, yet spending £3-£4k on a pair of rings
that are gona last a lifetime and be family heirlooms is willy waving? Get real!

The amount you spunked into that Corsa Gsi, you could have been married 3 times over.

Thousands of pounds on a ring for the sole purpose of posting a picture on facebook for a few likes.

doubt it. wedding would cost much more than i ever spent on that corsa especially based upon how much people in here seem to suggest an engagement ring costs

Motivation has changed from traditional reasons. Now a lot is driven by the response something is likely to get on facebook.

I'm more interested in where I'd propose. Having something materialistic is fine, but I'd rather remember the occasion for being special.
Hardly think popping the question at Nandos but with a £5,000 ring would be a great story.

I gave a modestly expensive ring while away on a horrendously expensive holiday. I wanted a good experience and memories. She still recounts the moment and loves the ring
Almost 2 years now.

That doesn't even make sense, how could I be bitter? I'm happy and I haven't had to spend several thousand pounds on jewellery for the privilege.
I certainly would be bitter, however, if I had spent several grand on a ring as a result of being brainwashed by society and marketing bullshit, and was now trying to convince myself that it's a justifiable and reasonable thing to do.

I asked 3,300m up a snow covered mountain with no one around and a blue sky day - not exactly Nandos.
