most of the cycling videos on youtube have their comments disabled
ive commented on a few stating how the cyclist was in the wrong only then the video owner to give abuse

Can anyone tell me the law when it comes to overtaking things like bicycles, or even very slow moving vehicles such as mopeds, or tractors on twin solid white lines?

Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.
Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10 & 26
As i was told on my test for my C+E, if you come up to a bike [or other slow moving road user like a horse] you should just stay behind it until the lines are broken again, however, there are times when this wouldnt be appropriate, such as a horse rider for example on a road that the lines are solid for some distance and if you can be sure its clear ahead you could tell the examiner so and manoeuvre over the white lines and slowly/cautiously past.

Seemed like there was plenty of room to me. Certainly didnt require a cyclist to actively turn their head and not look where they were going.
I think if I needed to turn and look around on a bike, id stop and put my foot down at the same time

just wondering steve, but have you had a problem with a cyclist in the past? perhaps you nearly caused an accident and they shouted at you, you cried, then had to get your mum to go round and make peace with your wrong doings. i dunno, seems like you are really enraged over something in your past here.

What gets me is the bloke clearly isn't too much of a simpleton as he has bought a Boardman so I'd like to think he has some sense and intelligence. But to react in the way he did and allow his bike to be thrown down like that suggests he is a bit of a plank.

Guy in front is definitely a simpleton you can tell by how he turns his head while they are going along before the crash, then he gets knocked off doesn't question why he's been knocked off his bike just says like me pop that over

Although a couple of those big rocks and stones seem a bit close for comfort.

Just re-watched it with the sound up.
Love how the experienced fella at the back exclaims what sounds to me like ''FOCKIN' EEJIT!'' and then immediately crashes into his pal like a fockin eejit, so badly that they both end up sprawled in the road. 
Brilliant irony and so lucky there wasn't another fockin eejit right behind them.
Naughty overtake by the car though if the driver could see there were cyclists in the opposing lane. He/she would only have needed to wait another five seconds or so and it would have been clear.
You need to cater for the lowest common denominator and expect the worst when driving near cyclists and act accordingly.

It's the insurance thing that concerns me. Where does a motorist stand if a cyclist, horse rider, etc. damages a vehicle? Does the motorist simply have to take the hit and claim on his/her insurance?
