It's worth plugging it in to see if it'll work, I have an airbag module in the e39 that works even though I've never coded my car's VIN number in. They aren't as fussy as the internet makes them out to be!
If you believed everything the internet typed you'd never buy anything from anyone other than BMW and change the oil for the tears of unicorns. My 528 has parts from ECP and Halfords and seems to gallop along just fine.

Yeah I can't see why an amp should need any sort of diagnostics but lets see.

All codes I changed so far
- Default start in Eco Pro
- Turn off ASS as default
- Turn on Speed on Kombi through BC button
- Set startup animation to M Sport
- Turned on video through USB playback
- Turned on XVID, VCD, OGG Codecs
- Tyre Temps
- Changed Sports Displays to M Sport red/silver style

4 Series is based on a 3 series chassis m8, not much difference.
Its about 80kg more than an E46 330d
