I had similar disappointment with an E82 135i that had been modded. It was an absolute missile in a straight line but the chassis felt slow, heavy etc bit like trying to run in wellies?
THIS
For the money they are a great car, and unique in that you can have a lovely 3.0 straight six unique to the manufacturer in that class of car. However, they are not an ///M car despite dave telling you down the pub how he fitted a JB4 and downpipes and is now as fast as an M4. Their limitations are exactly as you have described and the R&D and bespoke chassis parts on the M cars is very noticeable if you drive back to back. A mapped 140i has some pace but on standard brakes and chassis it gets out of shape quickly. Birds do a great diff and suspension upgrade but then you are closing the gap on the price of an M2.
This reminds me of the old days where people said a 330 was only a few tenths off the M3 on paper so it’s essentially a waste of cash to go ///M.
Totally missing the point of a car that’s (for a road car) is properly set up and actually handles. You can throw it about and it just always does what you want it to do. That’s why I keep coming back, they just drive nice. I’d take a slow E46 against a JB4 yo/wrap/bruhhh/5093928283£2hp M140i.
No to shit on them; because as I said they are nice cars and I like them. But it’s literally a country mile away from being special.

I also cannot tell you all how happy I am nobody has referred to an M140i or similar as an ///M “lite” because I am glad I have not had to vomit today

Problem is you’re just forever waiting for it to break!
We drove it around France, it was faultless but that didn’t stop me stressing

The 3.0 v6 lumps are simply a ticking time bomb, the crank has a massive design flaw and they literally randomly snap, it could be a 5k miles it could be at 500k miles its luck of the draw!

When they were new people would look at them and think, 'Rich Wanker'
Now they are well over a decade now people look at them and think 'Poor Wanker'

I'll take that TBH, can't really make the counter argument against either point
Had a Disco 2, nice big thing but really vague and wobbly, need two hands on the steering wheel and the cruise control is literally the engine sucking on the end of the throttle cable. Also LPG is an experiment and the diesels are quite slow.
At least with that you'd have a bit of space but also an arguably better engine, bit more poke, it'll tow well but you still don't need to play hunt the filling stations.
I might even settle for a straight 6 older one, at least when not if it breaks you'd get your money back in bits. Just thought that one looked value at 4 grand, don't normally see the TDV8 under 6 grand unless they're already broken.

Yes it will indeed, we are seeing a relief rally or dead cat bounce if you like. I think we will retest the bottom in markets, a V shaped bounce is hugely optimistic. I won't be trading the FIAT markets but I am close to entering a short on Bitcoin as it's had a 90% rally in only 26 days.
Was thinking about starting a separate thread about the Economy to be honest, interested to hear where other people stand in terms of their jobs and plans over the next 6 months. I remember 2008 very very well, I was out for 18 Months... getting deja vu here.
