I'm no expert so I don't know the advantages / disadvantages of having it driven here but I can't see an issue. The alternator will use exactly the same amount of power regardless of where it is mounted or to what the belts are driven by.
Another reason for mounting them on the rear of the drive shaft could be to move the weight to the rear, this will help weight distribution and to lower the center of gravity.
Same reason a lot of you move the battery to the boot / behind seats.
Audi's are often nose heavy. If Hamish can shift more weight from the front to the rear the better and the lower it's mounted the better.
Anyways, it will provide enough power to run the car for what is required it didn't run one last year so no matter how efficent it will be better than it was.

I know it'll use the same power wherever it's mounte but I'm on about rpm. Propshaft rpm is proportional to vehicle speed so the car will make more voltage at 120mph than at 40mph. In most cars, 40 and 120mph will probably create the same voltage as it'll be near the top of the revs in different gears.
I know it works on the IMSA stuff but they were flat out all the time, I can see him having problems which maybe he hasn't considered?
Not knocking him as he obviously has skills and knows how to build a car, I just don't think this'll work, seems a bit of a folly.

From Hamish:
You can tell him its an 85 amp alternator. From its spec sheet it produces 85amps at 7000rpm alternator speed. The alternator drive is 2:1 from the propshaft so from the calculations I did before buying it the alternator is doing 7000rpm at 60mph. Its producing 60 amps at 3500 which is obviously just 30mph. So it can produce plenty of power without breaking the speed limit!

Finally sorted out some pictures of the work before the show. It was a mad rush to get the car ready for the show, he just managed it with a few late nighters.
Got the alternator finished off and mounted under the car.
Whilst under there he connected up the rear diff lock.
Mounted the oil cooler for the gearbox, tucked up nicely out of the way.
Finally he had to do a little machining to the brake bells and brackets to get them to fit with the S2 running gear as its different to the quattro stuff:
Managed to get a pair of 3" dishes for the E50's so on the look out for another pair and then he can get them split down ready to build up.
A few pictures from the show. As you can see the S2 running gear has narrowed the track which will make it easier to fit the new E50's with wider dishes.
He's doing a few final jobs to the car to get it ready for a run out this weekend to do a little testing which should be fun!

I went to that show with some 'scene' mates, I have to be honest the standard of the cars on show was incredible. Lambos and R8s didn't get a second glance...
Saw the Hamish machine.

Not suire, i know we are fitting a locking diff to the landy, and saw someone on youtube roll their one going down a steep hill and my mate was shouting at the screen going "diff lock on, diff lock on, DIFF LOCK" then when it crashed he turned to me and said "they didn't put the diff lock on"

Went to do a bit of testing today at a local airfield.
Hamish ran the car for about 2 hours without any issues. Went out for a final run to have a bit of a play making lots of tyre smoke with some big drifts etc.
Anyway it all went a bit wrong managed to slide it off the tarmac section we were using. The grass had just been ploughed and it dug in and went over. Myself and Hamish are both ok just a little stiff.
The car doesn't look so bad considering it went over twice. Looks like it will need a new roof skin, drivers door, and a bit of work on the wings but they will all save. Will get it fixed up and back out again.
Videos soon it GOES LIKE FUCK!!!!!

Cage did its job brilliantly, metal can be replaced and by the looks of the rest of his work this wont be hard to fix at all.
