You need 2.8 and 1600iso when shooting night football. Even at professional level, its the reason i got rid of my 70-300vr and got the 80-200 2.8 instead.

Its a lot darker than you think isnt it!
My D70 used to struggle but its awesome with the D300, hardly any noise at 1600, i was even going up to 3200 for quicker Shutter speeds
Nice to know you thought of me too matt, i often think of you

Yeah it caught me out first night match i shot. One of the photographers i shoot with at York said ill be needing 1600 and 2.8 and i thought "nah, be light enough surely" soon as the light died down i was like "bollocks"

Not a church, is at a county club. Really nice place.
Should have:
10.5mm 2.8
50mm 1.8
18-70 3.5-5.6
80-200 2.8
Only one body though so im going to have to swap lenses ninja style!

Oooh, nice. Suppose its too expensive to hire a spare body, even a cheap one, for the day?

Haven't looked into that tbh Andy but i did think of it. It's typical, i had 2 bodies (D300 & D70s) and never found i needed 2, the minute i sell my D70 body this comes along!

gonna go into another photographers soon for studio lessons as the last person i went to i feel is more porn/modely instead of family/freinds portraits stuff.
