Blatant copy and paste time from somebody who makes competition spec panels for Evo 5/6s:

Prersonally, when i see dry carbon on a car i see 'lightweight' and serious competitor!
To explain wet and dry carbon: Wet layup is where the mould is coated with a thick layer of clear gel then a section of carbon matting has to be 'wetted out' with resin on a flat surface, laid into the mould and the air rolled out. All subsequent layers are done the same way and it's difficult to lay it up without using lots of heavy resin. Pre-preg is the same carbon matting but it is already impregnated with a heat curing resin - only just enough to do the job so it is much lighter. The pre-preg is laid into the mould and built up in layers then it's vacummed in a bag and baked under vacuum in an oven until the resin sets.
The difference in weight is like day and night TBH and although easier to make the parts in pre-preg, the materials and time to make a part are much higher than wet layup hence the higher costs.
The main defference is - wet layup bonnet 10Kg. Pre-preg bonnet 2.5Kg

I don't really use wet lay as you say the resin to cloth ratio is too high, thus making the part too heavy and weak.
I expect these tailgates to be 2.5kg/3kg and that's a total weight of both inner and outer skins together.
I've attended quite a few shows this year and can honestly say there's a lot of dodgy carbon parts out there!
We'll let the photos do the talking when Possy gets his.

Chris im only asking because if it is dry carbon your doing ill be interested. Hi Tim, it is dry carbon matey, I'll be updating here showing the lamination process.
Wet lay is okay for one off parts I.e overlaying with carbon and wetting it out with resin.
If you put a clear coating on the mould first then wet lay carbon into it, I can personally guarantee small or sometimes large air bubbles/fish eyes plus a heavy finished product lol
No point in having carbon parts if they weigh just as much as the original metal items lol
