Sorry but i reckon if say Man Utd, Chelsea or Arsenal had just spent £17m on a right back you could hardly call world class then you would be laughing at them right now. IMO

Of course I would be, and Im still hoping he didnt cost anywhere near £17m.
Fact is though we have to register a certain amount of English players in the CL, and the 6+5 rule may well come into effect sooner rather than later - so English players are commanding a high price.
Id rather spend £17m (£7m wiped off what they owe us for Crouch, probably about £7m for Arbeloa from Madrid) than spend £15m on Barry!
He is better than Arbeloa though, so he should improve the first team.

But then again, clubs like lyon, atletico madrid etc can hold us to ransom, i don't imagine Gremio being in the same position, so a more realistic bid would probably see them accept also. That is saying we are the only people in for him, which is unlikely

To me that seems we've at least another £20m to spend on a player (especially because Rafa said we'd probably beat our transfer record this summer but not Uniteds). Hopefully also another signing if we offload some deadwood.

Stats like that are useless, because if they hadn't played other people would have created, plus, 6 of tevez's goals were in the league cup
So, we lose 54 goals next season if we play the entire season with 9 men

I think Liverpool may have another 10 million to spend if they dont sell anyone, because only 10million of that 17 has come out of the transfer budget with the money owed
