Ive only been riding it daily about 5 or 6 weeks, but im averaging about 14-15mph to work with a top speed of 24mph down a slight decline. A few uphills but nothing major at all. Takes me about 13-15mins to do 4 miles

That's what gears are for, maintain a pace you are happy with including hills etc. no shame being in a lower gear. Look less of a hero in a high cog struggling.

The distance is actually 3.4 miles. averaged 4.46min miles since I started, but tbf, I was doing 20min trips to begin. down to a best of 13:40, which was just under 4min miles.
For someone who has barely done anything fitness related since school (10 years) im well chuffed with my progress.
Just need to ditch these sore legs haha

Tried to see how much of the Lias Line is rideable today. Made it to Rugby, there's a bit more in the middle which I think I can do, but I found it stops quite abruptly in the middle!

Im gonna have a crack at 50 miles by myself tomorrow. Have been working my back into it the last few weeks with 25, then 32, then 43 miles last weekend. Dropped a stone since Febuary which wont hurt
Looks like there is a club near me that have started doing some social rides at the weekend too. If they say they have a rolling average of 12-14 miles per hour...does that mean they are averaging that speed for the whole journey? Or just when they are on flats?
Im averaging about 14mph on 30miles and over - ive got a specialized allez hybrid so its a decent bike but its not quite as fast as a proper roadie- think I might hit the 50 mile mark by myself then have a look at joining this club for next week. Its nice getting out by yourself but its a bit bleak in this weather - I need pushing on by others I think.
I reality what will happen is I will develop bike envy, leave my bike in the shop that the ride finishes at, and go home on a new one lol

First time trial tomorrow morning, 10 miles. Looked at last years results for this course and im gonna have to go hard to not come last need to average 20mph which over 10 is do able but it is a slightly lumpy course.
Will let you know how I get on.

Dr. Pepper. Are you aiming to do the 50 miles in one hit without a stop or you gonna allow some breaks?
When I was building up my distances a couple of years ago I would do a distance for first time, say 50miles, on a flat route then once I could do that at a 15mph average I would do the distance with some hills and so on.
I just found it helped me psychologically.
Good luck with it though. If you can do 43, you can do 50

Good luck, the race of truth...
I did a 27.09 on our 10 course on my first attempt. Made the fatal mistake of going out too hard when I should have been just under or on the red line instead of been the wrong side of it. It all comes from practice though and knowing how to ride them.

If it is like it was today and Thursday, it'll be muddy, gritty, puddles everywhere. It's a fair way for you guys to travel! I may be up there myself next week..
