It's mountain biking you got to expect mud and puddles been watching some videos of it in the wet and it doesn't
Look to bad it seems to drain pretty well

The mud doesn't really trouble me much to be honest. Doug says a lot of the route is shut though?

When I was building up my distances a couple of years ago I would do a distance for first time, say 50miles, on a flat route then once I could do that at a 15mph average I would do the distance with some hills and so on.

I just found it helped me psychologically.

Good luck with it though. If you can do 43, you can do 50

In one go ... basically im looking to lose the fat again at the moment. Lost like 4 stone a couple of years back cycling 20 miles a day and doing some weights on off days. put a stone and a half of that back on over the last year so need to get back on it. I want to aim to do LeJog next summer and average 80-100 miles a day over the trip. My mate did 1000 miles around France last year which is really interesting me as well because it just looks like road bike heaven over there.

So I got out early this morning .... but only managed 39 miles today, I was aiming for 50 but after getting really cold changing an inner tube(fuck you Oxford council and your shitty roads) after 30 miles I bottled it and didn't do the extra bit I had planned. Could not believe how mild/calm the weather was when I set out ...and then how it changed while I was out... By the time I got back I had to peel myself off the bike.... Come on summer - hurry up!

I did average 14.5 mph over the 39 miles though which im pretty happy with. If it had been warmer I think I had it in me to go on for another hour or two .... kind of dissapointed I bottled the extra section but I did do intervals on the way home to punish myself lol .... its better than not going out at all by a long way.

It drains better now than it has in anytime I can remember, they have done a lot of work on the final section to get rid of the puddles in the berms, the puddles there used to be ridiculous! Hopefully it dries out a little before Tuesday when I go up again.

lol - yeah I changed my mind at London road roundabout ...was going to go out through barton, islip ect and then back in through Kidlington. Thats a really nice route to be fair, its normally the best part of my ride because it has about a 3 mile down hill bit after the initial uphill slog. Its gonna be a piece of piss cycling in the summer after getting the winter miles in(I hope)

31:12 on my time trial this morn. Was a pretty lumpy course with some nasty short steep inclines and a horrible headwind for first 3 miles! Annoyingly no tailwind at any point on the course!

Anyway, beat the time I set myself of
35 mins and didn't come last plus caught my minute man so pretty happy with it.

whats the best tracker/recoder thing that I can stick on my bars?

Ideally I would like one to show me current/average speed + distance + also personal bests for sections like strava does (i dont mind entering sections, unsure if it does it live on my phone as its always in my bag).

is there anything out there that does this?

Garmin edge 200/500/800/810 don't think any of them break down tge segments like in strava as thats strava itself working out what segments yoive done not the device used

ahhh, wonder if you can set them up... either that or just set them in my head and try and remember times

random pointless story about my ride today, had a old bag in a civic peep at me because she had to slow down and go behind me through a keep left barrier as i was going quicker than she thought.

You can get waterproof iPhone cases which handlebar mount. I think that one of those coupled with your app of choice would be far better than one of those Garmins.

Surely anything over a few hours and your battery will be gone? Strava ect seems to rinse my battery
