I had a hidden switch that was inline with the solenoid for the fuel pump, + one of those battery knob things.

What's the tyre noise like Steve? I got some bfg trail terrains for the front and some tacoma mud terrains for the back. The mud ones sound like a jet taking off.

So I painted the rest of the wheels
Now for a bit of an unexpected update, I found these retrim kits for the seats, they only cost £54+vat so I was a bit sceptical so I only bought one to try. When it arrived I was amazed at what you get for the money
In the box is retrim pieces ready made for all three sections of the seat, full foam inserts to replace all the old stuff, various bits for attachment, spray glue and an instruction dvd
Ordered black to go with the black theme inside, first up the sort of wear on the existing seats
Removed the seat
Removed the squab
And the squab cover
Old foam,
Removed next to frame
New foam insert on
Then started on the headrest, removed cover
New cover on and stapled down to hold in place
Then screwed down the metal cover
Removed the foam and cover off the bottom cushion
New foam piece on
Cover on
Whole seat recovered
In the car
Quite impressed with this so ordered the other kits to do the rest of the seats

Looks like quite a difference. I originally thought you £54 for the lot. Probably still cheap but not quite as cheap.

What's this like starting Steve? My worry about them is how they'd start in the middle of winter at -5 in the morning.

200 quid or so to retrim (and refoam) all 3 seats is a bargain tbh.
This project gets better and better! Although I can't believe you didn't spray that rusty looking metal bit for the headrest.

You'll know a lot better because you actually own one but anything I ever read talks about how unreliable they are. KKnowing how bad even recent land rover stuff is, I could believe that.

Not sure some of the older stuff was all that reliable.
The problems with the more recent stuff stemmed from dodgy electrics as far as I know, this has none
Thing is they are so basic there isn't much to go wrong, but then because of that nature I reckon a lot of people neglect them, run them on chip fat or water etc, then wonder why they get tired. Most of them literally get the shit kicked out of them
