I entered the Coed Y Brenin Enduro on Saturday. It killed me! Just under 40miles across a mixture of terrain, some awesome downhill sections, some climbs so steep and muddy eeryone was off and pushing. Pretty damn hard, was riding for 6 and half hours which goes some way to explain the terrain. Had to keep reminding myself to look up, some of the scenery and wood land we passed through was stunning
Ride is here: http://app.strava.com/rides/23563350
I got a lift there with a guy in one of the cycling groups I'm a member of, I didn't know what car he had until he turned up...450hp made quick work of the welsh roads, and the two bikes didn't seem to slow it down much

I've always considered Claud butler to be full of cheap shit components and I imagine it weighs a ton. Better off with a second hand Allez for the same money, at least that gets you a carbon fork as well.

Yeah looked at the elevation profile. Looks like you hardly got any breaks from climbing!

100 miles off-road would finish me off!
I'm always up for a ride if something is put together

You would train for it though?
I just came across the Somerset Hills Gran Fondo. Thinking about signing up for it. Think it was 120 miles, 7500 feet of climbing. Would be good preperation for the Etape Cymru.

Training is what I'm starting to realise I actually need to do. If I'm going to get involved in some longer distance stuff I can't blag it off the back of my casual riding, as the weekend proved
My first step has been to take the long way to work so I'm cycling 13mile round trip over an 8mile. Current weather isn't going to encourage me to get out much more though

I have made a point of going out in the wet recently. I figured if I am travelling all over the place to do sportives and events and I get there and it rains, I cant just not do it. SO I am currently manning up.
Went out last night, just a 12 mile run but it was fucking horrible. Cross wind along the cliff top nearly blew me off 3 or 4 times. Wasnt fun.
Simon you got any more events lined up? only another 2 1/2 months until my mountain bike gets her

I've always found that I'm fine with the wet as soon as I am out and riding, it's just the initial getting up and going out that I struggle with.
I'm doing the Swinley Forest Enduro on the 14th so couple weeks away.
What are you getting, and why the wait?

Cannondale Flash 29'er, just waiting for it to be delivered.
These Enduros, are they races or more like a sportive? Ive seen a few on the Gorrick website but not really sure how they work.

Nice! With a lefty?
I don't know really what defines them, the CYB enduro was a single lap, timed only by numbers being noted at the end. I've done 1 'sportive' which was the same but had a timing chip in the number too. I think the Swinley enduro is a series of separately timed sections. I'm new to all this so don't really know!

Ah right. The Gorrick 'Brass Monkey' Enduro looks like its a race. 2 hours to do as many laps as you can, kind of set up.
Yeah with a lefty mate. Sat on my mates single speed cannondale 29'er which was a medium (smallest they do) and it felt huge! Cant wait to get into it though, looks like I am moving house to an area thats going to have some trails about 100 metres away too
