Rectified each time with a battery battery pull, can see why android people get funny about non removable batteries now.
Today: Holding the home button to switch apps stopped working. Clearly recognised what I wanted as I got the haptic feedback to say the press was recognised but nothing happened. Out the battery came again. Also keep getting the issue with the latest back light not going off.
I'd factory reset it but since there's no full backup option and it's taken me weeks to adjust all the settings since doing it last time that's not an option.

Took mine out my pocket the other day and it said it was in safe mode.
God knows how I did it, had to switch it off and on again. Didnt think phones had a safe mode.

You mean notification tone? or light? or message?
If you mean tone, not that I'm aware, there's just an option to select 'default notification tone' and even when you go into the Facebook settings to change the tone it just changes the default one which applies to everything.

Steve - I guess with apps and stuff not being sandboxed the various things you download from the play store can interfere with eachother causing unwanted side effects that may not be present in other devices.
It's similar to when you download tweaks on a jailbroken iPhone that clash, you end up getting niggles.

Every app runs in it's own VM, should be pretty separated from each other.

Kies does backups, so start there. Alternatively have a look at Ultimate Backup Tool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844032
And it sounded like your Samsung launcher crashed, which case you could have just closed the launcher app and restarted it. No need for a battery pull.

11 pages of people with problems using that tool
Carbon is an app thats being released soon that looks to do the job well but its £5 and requires a widndows app for backing up stuff that requires root.
Why can't google just develop a decent comprehensive backup app that works with their operating system no matter what phone and just syncs everything to google drive.

That's because people in this thread bum their S3's (as most have never known any different) and I tell it like it is.
Might start and Android fail blog.

It's like owning a Bentley and having to drive a Ford for a bit, they both do the same thing but everything about one is much better.
