Yeah, Vettel seemed like a lovely chap when he was effing and blinding on the radio for the whole world to hear.

Some fucking right butt hurt here from the spamilton fanboys.

Pleased though that he acknowledged via his thoughts about this season that he is only a 2 time world champion as Massa was the moral victor in 2008.

Alonso and Vettel have to be on the phone to their managers and trying to get out of the current teams and into that Merc.

Wont lie, Rosberg was fucking lucky this year, I love a good troll but he wasn't the best, not even in the top 5/6 best drivers on the grid IMHO so best to go out at the top knowing you will never ever get back to the pinnacle ever again. I respect him massively for that.

Button to McLaren and Alonso to Merc? Or Button to Merc??? Merc aren't going to want to blood the young potential driver they have against Hamilton IMHO, he would destroy them unless they were very very mentally strong. Let's be honest too, he as a racer only cares about himself.

Wehrlein. Short term Contract.

Clear #2 driver with Hamilton, unlike how it has been with Rosberg for 4yrs.
He's shown some decent performances in a low performing car and is already a Mercedes driver - bearing in mind he has been testing the Bastardised 2017 mule this week too...
Cheaper than another Headline driver whilst they see what 2017 brings with the Reg change.

Flipside, sign a Headline driver like Alonso (not specifically him) and use the outright skill of two top drivers to guarantee some form of performance if the car isn't at the top of the pile come Melbourne.

What in the fuck have I just read? I guess it's serious at its on sky news, but seriously?

Probably realised he won't have the chance to beat Lewis again.

I'm shocked

Part of me respects he quit at the top.

Part of me thinks he's a monumental bellend.

I think he really, really felt the pressure over the last few GP. Credit for still making the WDC but i guess he doesn't fancy it again.

My guess is he achieved his ambition, the relationship was unbearable with Hamilton and its very clear merc will always pamper to Hamilton because of his marketing value and keep him from spitting his dummy out

Also having the best car and no teams challenging - although next year might be a little better it would be a hard pill to swallow to go into a non competitive car

I honestly think the Hamilton Rosberg relationship was beyond repair and he saw a better backing for hamilton than himself

I like the fact Mercedes are making a big deal out of selling the Lewis Hamilton 2016 5 cap set, yet I haven't seen a single bit of special edition Rosberg merchandise.

That right there is why Lewis is the main man. He's very marketable.

The fact he's retired is a huge anticlimax for me, same as hakkinen, hill and villeneuve. Rosberg has potential and more racing left in him but can only respect his decision really.

Just seen his retirement speech and it's definitely.a heart over head moment for him. He was holding back tears, describing how hard it's been on him and his family.

Fair enough I guess, a man can only take so much and I applaud him for putting his personal life before work.

I'm genuinely gutted he won't be there next year to defend his title. I was looking forward to a new dynamic within the Mercedes team and was secretly hoping this would heal some wounds between the 2 old friends Lewis and Nico.

I'm sure he'll still be involved in some way. There's no doubting his intelligence, so he'd be very useful behind the scenes, or even in a sky F1 role. He can't be any worse than Anthony Davidson, personality wise

As Ben said I'm half massive respect for being a family man, achieving his goal and no way to top that (realistically) so he quit being rich and on top after driving the best car in F1 and winning the title

The other half of me says massive bell end

How can your whole life be focused on one point and then you just quit?! He has the dream job, in the dream team. OK he has a bad relationship with his team mate but still.... £30m a year to be second best :O I wouldn't turn that down

It has to be Wherlien SP, surely the only choice as he knows the car and team etc, will be cheap and also young to go for a Red Bull style outsider/young protegé.

Want it to be Alonso though, that man needs a decent drive but not sure Lewis would sign off on it tho!!

I think it's an interesting contrast into the psychology of a sportsperson. Often even after winning the "WDC" equivalent of their field, they just want to push on and dominate and win more.

Look at MSC, Alonso, Lewis, Vettel, etc - all obsessed with their next WDCs a minute after winning their last.

This combined with a genetic self confidence often leads sports people into gradually petering out into a fog of mediocrity later in their careers, still thinking they have it in them to win again.

Not so for Rosberg it seems.
