mine used to leak oil there but it was the sealant on the main bearing cap not the seal alltho no harm in changeing the seal while the flywheel is off

how much are the arp flywheel bolts nic?

a 3.6kg flywheel is very light, can there not be issues going 'too light' on a flywheel?

If it's too light you get idleing problems, thats it really.

it did idle bang on 800rpm quite nicely. perhaps being heavier, it will not rev as fast thus creating less wheelspin. then again, being heavier will be under more load producing more boost in lower gears making it spin more. hmm.

personally dont think its going to make any difference at all. just stop its annoying ring gear rattle it does sometimes from cold.

actually if it did, it would make it worse as it would have to cut the ignition instead of throttle, unless you bodge a motor on the TBs

next plan while car is on ramp to do gearbox is to see if i have left enough wiring on a rear abs sensor so i can get the boost in gears bit wired up. knock boost out of 1st, 2nd and a bit out of 3rd. should help a little.

Have you heard much about this new kit called ''Race Logic'' Nic?

A lad on Scn has it and it around the £800 mark...

today took the corsa down to the rolling road as johnathan who owns it said i could use the ramp to take gearbox off to do flywheel etc.

no pics of removal of box as me and my mate feet were going fast at it. box was off in about 30 minutes.

the results wernt as we had hoped however. was hoping for a knackered release bearing. as they are cheap. turns out, thats fine.

one worn out clutch

one friction plate with score marks. more on the plate later.

one flywheel. been getting quite warm perhaps

if you look on the outside, there is a problem with the ring gear on it.

oops. the annoying rattle that the car had when it was cold was due to..........

pretty sure its not supposed to do that.

back to the pressure plate. basically, the car was fine, went to do a run on the strip. through frst gear fine, tried for 2nd, didnt feel right, went for 3rd, didnt feel right carried on in 4th. basically like it wasnt releasing properly. had checked cable etc for adjustment. all fine. clutch seemed to be working ok. i drove car onto te dolly today, off it and into the workshop, so it was still ok. just a bit dodgy getting into gear. knock engine off, get all gears perfectly. we found that the pressure plate had split itseld. sheared off etc.

screwdriver was for illustrational purposes only and wasnt harmed during the taking of that pic.

so bugger, need a new clutch, which ive managed to borrow off a mate, and a pressure plate, which he thought he had, but turns out he only had a one for a flat type flywheel. bugger. will order one on tuesday morning hopefully have it all sorted by wed or thursday night.

so on with new stuff.

fitted the new billet steel flywheel i got from a fella on migweb called vxlgsi. top stuff indeed it is. really nicely made. it is now attached using arp botls instead of std gm ones like my last one was.

then drained the engine oil and gave it the 8v baffle plate and gasket treatment. had to chop off the level sender unit thing to make it fit. wasnt aware that had to be done. learn something new every day. also made sure to bend that tab aswell as they catch otherwise.

bad day at the office some might say.

atleast got to see a supercharged 106gti in for mapping. sounded random indeed.

the weight of an f28 is quite annoying indeed. much worse putting them back on than removing them.

hoping the pressure plate will arrive this week coming then can get messing on with the in gear boost set up make it spin a bit less in the first 3 gears.

can use the crappy vectra gsi run around for a week i guess. live the life to work and back in comfort, with air con, and a radio, and carpets and interior trim etc.
