I don't really want a single pivot like the orange, I've ridden a few and just didn't get on with them enough. To build a bike isn't the cheapest unless you cut corners on components?

Sold off my 2 year old carrera tdf today as I want to upgrade. Used it at least 4 times a week for the last year and I'm sad to see it go
Replaced it with a felt F5
Mmmmmmmm carbon.

Recently got back into mountain biking with my friends a purchased a 2011 Gt Avalanche from a lad at work, didn't what to invest big money as I didn't know whether I'd keep it up. However I'm really enjoying it and am now thinking about investing in a better bike but I'm really out of touch with what to look for so thought I'd ask you kind chaps. Ideally I'm looking for a hard tail with a maximum budget of £1000 so any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

They aren't as bad as people make out, modern shocks can cancel put pedal bob very well! Depends what kind of kit you want? Nukeproof Mega is another decent frame. What's your budget?
If I could afford too, I'd sell my orange five and buy a new alpine when they are released and build it from scratch, I paid £2480 for mine brand new and have spent around £700 on upgrading, if I built it myself I'd of saved nearly £1000 I reckon.

Currently have no real budget. I'd go with up to 4k. Although I can get a remedy 9 for 3000, just it's a 140mm travel and I'd prefer 160 due to the rocky lakes riding we do. I'm pretty sure someone will be along to tell me I don't need that much travel, but hey.

For 4k you'd get one hell of a custom build for that!!!

Nic if you shop around you could build a amazing bike for £4k. I never buy full bikes now, I just buy all the bits from various places.
Merlin, CRC, bike-discount, bike 24 etc.
You could build a Transition covert 650b for about £3600.
If you had £4500 you could build a Nomad 650b for around that. UK price of the build would be £5699 for the same bike.

I'd buy all the parts from Germany tbf, you could get X01 for around £600 from bike discount, RS Pikes are around £550.
Brakes and such are quite personal, vfm nothing beats Shimano currently, I have Hope V4s at the moment, which are amazing but cost me £300..

Is that not annoying if you have an issue - id maybe rather pay a couple £££ more for a uk dealer..
If im honest i have no clue what makes that better than my trek? I dont really understand spec lists so tend to buy on what looks pretty

There is a uk service centre if something does go wrong i had a strange creak on my spectral and they said take it to your lbs and we will pay £75 to diagnose the problem and then whatever the cost of parts is they will pay the extra it turned out to be a loose pivot bolt so had a full.service done as well within the £75 result.

canyons don't get the best reports tbh. lots of problems with them. id stay clear until they are more established.
