HG isn't difficult as such, its just a big job, that's where the labour goes. And you need get the belt right etc., its not something you'd take on lightly.
You could do it yourself, no one has said you can't? Might take a bit longer and you'll be worrying a bit more when it comes to first start afterwards but it's possible to save the money. Might need cam locking tool etc. but otherwise its fairly standard garage tools.

I would if I could.. I work way to much to do a job like that privately. That wasn't my point in saying it cost £40 I was just saying that as in the parts aren't exspensive it's the labour that's killer!

That's a lot to spend on a 1200 no matter how much you try and justify it. Could've bought a whole car for that money with a decent engine and broke the rest.
At least you will be back on the road though.

You can, you just didn't. They're not on every street corner but they are there.
I do think boshing it in to a garage and getting it back fixed does sort it out though. If you've no time or tools I'm not sure you'd want to take on a whole car.

Far as im aware (when I tried when I was 19) Direct line only allows 2 x modifications (depending what they are) and main driver and any named drivers have to be 25+
Sorry to hear about engine HG mate, though, if can get it running ASAP, means you can get back and for work to earn the money towards the XE projects

Well just got a call from my dads mate the mechanic and turns out it needs a new chain, sum gasket, head gasket and a skim all in all totalling £560 cash in hand hobby! Fuck that so scrappy jobby then I think! Or some serious persuasion to my dad for an xe?! He just can't see the point in spending all that money on an engine with 150,000 miles on it as he thinks its just going to blow up! Any tips to help persuade him! :/

Madness! Will you be completely gutted letting it go? Personally I'd break it and get a van, you got wheels to go on one.. Bucket seats too.
