I don't think he was joking - I think he was pointing out that if it were real, when you shut the door, the TARB wouldn't be long enough.
I'd be inclined to agree, but I think his kerning is a little tight when compared to another example of the Starbucks typeface:

I was merely illustrating the fact, that if the door closed on Nathy's pick, the gap would be too big to only hold the letters "TARB" hence it is fake.

And I think you're right, the kerning might be too narrow, but it will definitely still not fit with the same kerning as in "UCKS".
