To add fuel to the fire, here's my thought's for what they're worth.
Cages and body strengthening are my bag and I can see both sides of the argument for strengthening/not strengthening.
But, whilst the engine bay is empty why not get it strengthened?, it will improve the handling by making the front of the shell stiffer and it will give you piece of mind for the future.
It will also offer extra strength in the front panel area where the shell is most likely to take a ding and may well stop the chassis leg from moving too far out of true.
I would recommend anyone completing the conversion to have as much strengthened as possible and if utilising a cage have it welded into the car.

These are my thought and may not be worth a rub!!!

Exactly, why you would'nt have the engine bay is beyond me.

I would want it from the start, just for piece of mind.

Piece of mind is priceless, when the engine bay starts to sag and rot you WILL say Wish I had had the engine bay strengthened when I had the chance. Text Red

Engine bay should not sink or rot. It is maintained and always kept clean.

A standard Corsa is good enough to take a mildly tuned LET without any strengthening, so an engine with 1/3 the power will be fine also providing you use the correct parts.

If the engine bay starts to sag and rot away then you really must have bought yourself a crapper in the first place.

Keep it maintained and it wont go wrong.

feck it if the body goes pairshaped on mine i'll just buy another scrapbox and transfer all the parts. the only reason why i'm gonna get somebody else to do the conversion is thats i cant get all the engine parts.

i'm not into body kits so dont have any body pannels to transfer.

Engine, Brakes, Suspension thats it.

Having said all that i have a 94 corsa and the only body problems there seems to be is cracks on the pillers near the door handles which i got welded up. But i have been told that these have to be cut out and a plate welded in for them to last....

FFS for the price of a cheap holiday you can have your whole engine bay welded up, I cannot understand why people won't just do it?
