my point is that they would use turbos over high reving n/a engines because they make more torque. the turbo engines were smaller than current engines and made more power. I think they reved to around 13000rpm with 5bar of boost

the difference beeing the V-tec IS the engine, the advanced cam lobes already IN the engine means it produces this power without a turbo, time/money wasnt wasted persuing more torque than needed.
There is still the posibilty of a turbo aslo!

Well technically the sock needs to be trapped inside the inlet manifold, so it keeps the throttle body open at a permanent 3k rpm. This allows for maximum torque at all times.

But it is still no greater than other stock 1.6/1.8/2.0 engines. Honda engines are not amazing engines, they are just plain old simple good engines.

Dont forget it allows the exhaust to POP and FLAME, even when switched off

VTEC is a system to produce more power - if the block just had a 'normal' cam system like is found in older cars then it woudl not produce teh same power.
I suggest you look up torque and read what it is

Ok, I just need to set the score straight. Any car that is Japanese, or Jap, as mos Max Power readers tend to say, is amazing. This includes this one:

I fcukin know what torque is!!!!
The point im making is that honda are able to make these variable cam engines very well beating every engine in its class for reliabilty and power full stop, u can talk about 'oh but if it didnt have V-tec it would be same as any other engine' BUT IT DOES!!! this is what im saying, Mitsubishi had a go with the Mivec, didnt work, was a more advanced 3 stage progresive cam system that keeps breaking.

the Seat Leon, the astra GSi and the focus RS all produce more power and torque than the CTR
but I can say if it did not have VTEC as your saying without turbos

And comparing the V-tec to turbo's, the V-tec isnt a turbo and isnt just 'bolted on' it IS the engine, the car remains naturally aspirated.
