Im 100% certain he weighed matters up before he laid that butt.
If it was me (and i was just about to lose it) I would have thought....'wtf, a few minutes to go, career ending, why not?'
The ref missed it, the linesman missed it.......they both watched it ad infinitum on the big screens is my best guess

Re-read my post, don't think you've quite got the point, if he'd have just lost his cool he would not have thought so clever about where he's headbutting him, it was calculated and organised, and purposely away from the face.
P.S. I have never acted in such a way on the pitch, I'm an angel.

My thoughts..
Penalty or not a penalty? On the slow mo at the end he clearly clipped his heels by mistake but still, impeded so correct decision... ZZ nobhead for doing that but it worked!
Materrazi... Everton fans must be sick as a dog!!
France - better team over the 90
Equal over the 105
Domenech... WHY did he take Henry off, injury or no injury... he was a clear pen taker!
Lippi - used his subs far too early!
ZZ - what a twat, he will be forever remembered as the man who foolishly cost France a WC! That said, we would be furious with materazzi would Zidane have been English :S
Pens - every single one was top draw incl. Trezeguets although it was an inch too high!! Lesson to be learned by the English :'(
France were never gonna win the pens as they simply didn't seem to budget for pens in the 2nd half and left them with too few takers on the pitch
Overall - I'm glad Italy won but I do feel neither team were the best in the tournament (still feel Argies deserve that along with ze Germans!) but at least France have not won it more than us!
Cannavaro man of the tournament along with Gattuso... would have been Zidane had France won and he had not headbutted Materazzi!!
HOWEVER, it goes down hill now as half the Italian squad will be looking for a new club tomorrow

I don't think the ref (as said above) seen it on the big screen as then the fans would have seen it too..And by the reaction of the french fans after it they knew nothing.

Robbo I've seen all these tricks and heard explanations of them week after week, even had it done to me for nutmegging a player once, he had to foul me to stop me, to get the referee to look away he kicked the ball too hard on purpose so the ref was interested in getting the ball back, then gave me a right hook(which missed as I ducked).
