Mini Cooper - Go Kart but not actually great handling cars.
Teggy Type R - The best FWD handling car, ever...
Astra VXR, ok im biased, but i've pushed it, and its a bloody superb handlign car when on the limit. Just needs some confidence as the ass end feels a little, "wavy", but it sticks, oh boy oh boy does she stick...
Nissan Primera (don't knock it, superb handlers!!!!!!), one of the best of its time. Let down by shoddy road spec engine.
Clio 172/182, 3 wheels on my wagon..
Watched the new Mini Championship the other day, Cooper S's and the NA versions... Mini looks more stable on the track than the Clio, but the clio does look a lot quicker through the bends.
A Vauxhall Corsa GSi on standard suspension
I'll be watching the new Punto/Corsa/Clio/Chevvy with interest over 2007.

I'd say the fact they were like go karts contributed to them handling well.
150bhp from a 2.0 16v in the GT still isn't bad and if you compared it to other cars of the same age it was pretty good.

Becuase their so small and light and go-kart characteristics... They go round bends, but as an actually good handling car, they arn't as great as people think. Its just your in such a small car, so low to the ground, it feels much quicker than it is.
Just didn't perform as well as the stats suggested though. Gimmie a touring car spec one though

Ermmm, I've only driven a Mk4 Fiesta GhiaX, 1.0 12v GLS and Mini Cooper S properly.
Also driven dad's M3 without insurance and his nutter bastard 90 330 Transit!
I thought the Mini Cooper S handled pretty well seen as I was on Rockingham's finest inner circuit.
Is a Lotus Elise RWD?
(Oh, I've also driven a MK5 Fiesta and Corsa C 1.2 16v Comfort which I learnt in - Fiesta was instructors car, Corsa C courtesy car!)

i still vote mini in the best handling FWD cars,
regardless of what people say, its FWD and goes round corners better than 99% of things mentioned

No budget...
I've been told that the Teg Type R is the best, but from first hand experience a Mini Cooper S everytime!!!
The feel through the steering is better than an Elise and Exige (IMO, all of which I have driven).
Then i'd go for a 172/182 although in standard trim these are far to high and twitchy over the backend at speed.
On a budget.... well just go to a trackday and what do you see..... NOVA's and lots of um. Followed by 205's.... These 2 are defo my budget choice. Corsa has a wider track but are heavier. so doesn't offer the same power/weight gain as a Nova.
106GTi never been in but a 106 Quicksilver which came to the Ring with us last year impressed me no end.
