I think they would be top half, if not in the top 6, of the English Prem leage if they got in.
I dont support them either.
Oliver - you are a bawbag.
you are joking? right?
If scottish teams where to merge with the prem i could see all of them sinking but rangers/celtic who would be mid table at best.
if celtic and rangers moved to the premiership there spending power would only be eclipsed by that of Chelsea's, with the correct guidance over a short period of time we would both consistently be among the top 6.

The SPL is shit. You only have to look at some of the Championship rejects plying their trade (and doing well) to realise this. Celtic aren't a bad side but to say they would finish top 6 in England easily is a little optomistic. Rangers would struggle to finish in the top half IMHO. The other sides would do very well to even stay in the league.
Take the top 6-7 Championship sides in England and they'd do very well in the SPL.

I never said they would finish top 6 easily
Top half, maybe to 6.
Rangers are good to... just a bit off of late
Aberdeen/Hibs/Hearts would prob be religation fodder.
Yes... the SPL isnt as good as english top flight... But Rangers/Celtic are more than capable of beating more than 50% of your premiership.

and also.
any person with half a brain can see why there arent so many 'stars' in the SPL.
Scotland has 10 teams in the SPL (or is it 12 now )
two of them get big crowds... the rest max about 10k regular i think... 20k or so capacity.
Scotland has 5mil population, about 10% of Englands.
If you were a 'star' would you go to a small league and maybe get the same wages but less publicity/international recognition etc?

After some of the comments posted i'll say fair play to you Marc, totally agree with you're points.
It's good to hear someone not being biased towards there team and telling it like it is.
It's obvious Jarosik dived but at the end of the day the ref gave it and what a finish from Nakamura.
Man Utd played well, final 3rd let them down tho.
Got to say well done to Celtic, just hope we can do the same against Auxerre on Thursday night!

Good result BUT in all fairness neither team should have qualified yet as it sghould go to GD like most things rather than head to head meetings!

only caught the last 30mins due to football training. Was certainly an entertaining game towards the end. My eyes kept on diverting to the Arsenal v Hamburg game (which I notice there's no thread for )

Theo did come on. As soon as he got the ball we were all cherring and trying to get him to run at them as he was skinning them quite easily - very like Aaron does.
Changing the formation at half time to 442 made a big difference and bring on Adebayor and Walcott - they wanted to run at people which raised the whole pace of the game. I think Ljungbergwas suffering a bit and never really looked like he was going to beat anyone

theres a case for both tbh, and imo it should be head to head meetings rather than goal difference against the other teams in the group.

no one is disputing the quality of the spl but if celtic and rangers were in the premiership their incomes would be just a level under manchester uniteds and chelsea's.
Your also comparing the spl to the championship, the old firm don't even get anywhere near the amount of television revenue even the middle of the road championship teams do, when you look at it that way Celtics wins against Blackburn, Liverpool and now Manchester United deserve a bit more credit.

Scottish teams winning against English teams mean nothing, they just raise their game. The English sides couldn't give a rats.

Manchester United couldn't care less if they qualified to the last 16, ok.
We also never raised our game, we haven't conceded a goal at Parkhead in 6 champions league ties we are a match for any team at home if they come from England, Spain, Italy, Germany or Kazakhstan.

Benfica is a tough away game, going to need to play well now just to get through. We, however, are already through with 2 games left
