you kind of agreed there, as monsters car is stripped, so yes you would need about 150bhp to beat one thats not been stripped

and my 106 ran a 15.3 std

My gearbox and clutch has gone on the 106, and it's around £600 to repair.. and when I don't have £100 it's hard to find that sort of money.

Cheers

Thats a lot of cash for a gearbox, you can buy one for £100 and a good clutch kit for the same then another £100-£150 to have it fitted by a garage or get it done by a mate for much cheaper

Your 106 GTi ran a 15.3 standard

As already mentioned.... Corsa will need more power than the 106 and loose weight to have any chance. But an XE will nail one Easy. Not due to the power, but the significant amount of more torque across the whole of the rev range. The 106 GTi / Saxo VTS, are only quick with the aid of revving the nuts off them. Low down torque isnt too good, especially with passengers in the car. But then again a Corsa sport is even worse.

Are you pulling my plonker or being deadly serious? I think someones has swopped your 5 and 6 round on your keyboard lol... I've driven 2 different modded VTS's at the pod and they were both in the 16's and another mate got a mildly modded VTS to a 15.9

Not saying your wrong, just doesn't make sense

A standard Clio Cup only runs 15 dead. (well 16.2, 15.8 and 16 dead if your one of my mates who can't drive the dam thing :lol

well a stripped corsa will probably give it a similar weight so you would need to give it 120-130bhp then so whatever mods needed to do that i guess

i was restraining for commenting here but im going to have to.

Ive owned a dbilias x16xe, yes it was apprently fuked but still ran 123bhp on the rollers...

My vts at pod had an open cone, which proably lost me time sucking in hot air as my engine temp was very high everytime i got to the strip, aswell as the fact it rained for an hour and was damp and cold all day. and i still ran a 15.9 with a full tank of petty aswell.... and nothing stripped etc...

I believe when Monster did his quarter mile it was quite sunny etc but i agree that his is proably close to a vts as its stripped alot..

And how much is a Corsa sport? Got to be below a tonne isn't it?

Just trying to work out why the french ferrets are 1.5-2 secs quicker down the strip (apart from the obvious 15bhp power advantage obviously.

oh, I thought there was a much bigger weight difference than that....

So "In Theory" You just need a 120bhp Corsa with a driver only, and a standard 106 GTi with a driver and passenger to get a similar power to weight.

I know theres a lot more to it that that but essentially the cars will be fairly evenly matched on an open road.

ok, so where does the "the corsa will need 140bhp to have the same power to weight" come from. My calcs say the 106 GTi has 132bhp/tonne and a 130bhp Corsa will also have 132bhp/tonne.

So in answer to the original question... you'll need your corsa producing 130bhp to have the same power / weight as the 106.

But indeed some decent shocks and springs will be needed to help in the corners.

i rephrased earlier in the thread to 140bhp

a 106gti power to weight based on 910kgs and 125bhp
139.57

a corsasport would need 138bhp based on 980kgs

i said 125 because early ones had 120bhp later ones tended to have 130bhp whether this was purposeful or just french manufacturing tolerances i dont know
