You do NOT need a BT line for sky tv. Ive had sky tv full package running from my NTL phone line for the last year and a half and have been able to do all interactive and box office stuff. Ive just moved to BT though as im getting sky broadband, refuse to pay 18 quid a month for virgin broadband when i can get sky for 10 quid.

Just called Virgin.

Been put on the VIP package, All channels, unlimited calls, 10mb broadband. Plus they are replacing all 3 of our STB's with brand new V+ ones on friday, all with access to the HD service. Saving £60 a month and gettin shitloads for it
