Buy some land (or a house and convert it) and build a garage/workshop for my cars.
Live like a slightly rich bum for as long as possible.

If JUST a million, purchase a Ferrari, a nice big house (with a pool ), sensible car, invest a lot, save some and then carry on as normal tbh... £1m is NOTHING in this day and age really... as for living off the interest, no... £40k a year max really after tax so not viable...

Buy a nice house in my area - £250-300k
Brand new 911 Turbo, VR6 my golf (runabout ) Get jade her mini.
Possibly give the parents & my sister a few quid.
Nice holiday somewhere.
That would eat about half of it, invest the rest & go back to normal, except with a nice car & hoose

£1,000,000 is not really enough to just pack up and retire on, if you spent none of it you would only get in the region of £60-£80k a year, which is good but not the rich and famous life style you would think.
personally i would clear all debts, sort myself out with NIce car and house, no more than 300k so i can afford the council tax and bills etc, then i would invest the remaining money (being £600k ish) i would continue working but my plan would be to retire by my early 50's if not before.

1 mil is more than most people will earn in there life. it's enough to pack your job in and live comfortably.
