The different colours are for the stress/strain map. Green is no stress, blue is a little and red is too stressed.

I can't do level 14 on the 'old' ones, I've looked at 15 and have no chance, and no, I can't get past 3 on the 'new' ones

The beams need to be in tension and in compression equally. If they are just in tension then they will pull apart. If they are just in compression they will collapse. Building aboove the tracks will disperse force in high areas of tension much like building below the tracks will disperse compression. The idea is to have no areas where there are stress raisers.

This 'game' would be quite useful for bridge builders, presumably they have something similar, but better thinking about it
