see the cheapest quote ive had even on the 1.2 was 1400 quid with tesco.and yes it was just for discussion rather than practise askin if it was possible, but i didnt think it would cost as much as 1400 quid even for a 1.2.and no steve even if i did do it i wouldnt be getting my parents to pay for it and i would be telling the insurance about it,because at the end of the day, even if sum little twat hit me i wouldbe getting nothing because im not valid, and why would i want to do that?

Change the engine to a 1.4 SPI, do all the wee mods that you can do it, SR cam etc, they make about 80bhp with a full exhaust etc, would be much better than a 1.2, and it looks identical to a 1.2, theres no way the insurance are checking engine numbers etc.
IMO.

Would they really go to the bother of doing so though? The engines look identical, they would be a bit more concerned if it was a big block 16v in there

Love the way so many of you think just 1 year of driving is enough experience to stick a 2.0 engine in

I had a couple of hairy moments after jumping from a 1.4 8v 60bhp to a 2.0 16v with around 160bhp
Insurance wouldnt touch you @ 17 even flux will rape you i think were talking £3K territory. You'll have just as much fun in a tuned 1.4 \ 1.6 16v for a few years before you go to an 20xe.

what sorta tuning can i do to a 1.4 that wont kill me on insurance at 17 though? not alot i wouldnt have thought, anything over an induction kit and a cat back exhaust would be adding on a lot of pounds on the insurance
