Is it worth spending the £500 or so and having the shell dipped to get rid of all the corrosion/paint/sound deadening? Would make it easier to paint it and get a better finish as well, i'd have thought.

Mate of mine has just set up a blastic and coating company, used to work for M-Sport!

Made Hamish a good offer to get the car blasted using plastic media so no damage to panels then primed and undersealed!

He might take that offer up still but at the moment, deciding against it!

On a car of this size, it would be £750, currently have cars in from all over the UK as not many people are using this type of blasting!

Today saw the final plates welded into the car for the cage.

Then as Squib was around decided to make the rear brace and that got welded in as well!

Squib bending to get the perfect angle

Well got a good bit more done on it today.

The dash bar was made, and the cross between the rear struts. Then the whole lot was welded up as it was only tacked in yesterday.

A few of the welds just need a little tidy up, remove a little of the splatter but its all looking good.

Lots more bars to go in yet should have it all sorted by next weekend!

I think he plans too:

First year... prob a bit of going to shows with it and a few sprints
Second year... will look more used and abused so sprints / hill climbs track days

He's been working through the remaining bars.

Got the ones done that link the main hoop to the rear turrets, the roof diagonal is also done but not in the pics.

Door bars currently underway too.

This arrived on Sat:

He has also bought the pedal box and master cylinders so just got to wait for those to turn up now!

A little more done this weekend, everything welded up apart from the cross door bar which he has made today and took bloody ages!

Right then, a few more pictures.

The master cylinders have turned up with the pedal box.

A bit more done on the cage. The passenger side door bar is now finished off. The harness bars are in the cross. The front brace has been made and the links forwards to the turrets are half way there. So the cage should be nicely finished off with a good day tomorrow!
