[QUOTE=Dec.;3693590]Big update today

Started off Sunday morning by fitting the new diff/main oil seals. The gearbox was then offered into the bay, blocked up with plenty of padding to save the paintwork

With the gearbox in place, and the nearside driveshaft connected, we prepared the block. First job was to replace the spigot bearing, that was nice and easy as dad had the correct puller. Then we assembled the flywheel and clutch. This is when things started getting interesting... we had no engine crane, so the plan was to offer the block in hopefully lining it up with the gearbox and sitting it down on a padded block to rest, then line up and hopefully secure to the mounts... all whilst preserving the paintwork!!! :eek:

Anyway, after a lot of swearing, cups of tea and more swearing it went it!!! It didn't help that Sunday afternoon turned out to be tropical humidity, not what you want when your doing seriously heavy lifting and grafting in overalls!!!

Once the engine and box were in, we then managed to fit the starter motor, gear linkage (and set up the gears) and a bit of pipework around the back of the block.

Here are a few pics, enjoy...

New EBC clutch:

Keying up the flywheel:

Preparing for the block (note the finest bed linen lmao)

It's in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments welcome

A very cool project. Would love to do a project to this extent myself. But the amount of time/money it'd take must be un-real.

Just stuff like the starter motor etc all not just being new, but being re-painted etc to be better than. Superb attention to detail Love it.

[QUOTE=Dec.;3698849]Made some good progress today, started by cleaning up the carbs, the lacquer I used some time ago had reacted badly so we washed it off using thinners. I'm happy with the bare alluminium finish, hopefully it'll stay good...

I also repainted the inlet manifold and thermostat housing in the new silver paint, once this had been done we began to assemble the carbs...

New hydrauhlic lifters...

Ready for the cam box....

A sniff of instant gasket...

Not bad for a days work

Cheers,
