thats just what ive been told mate, i havnt touched the engine other than put the pipercross induction kit on and service, my mate owned the car before me and he did all the engine work, ive done the body side of it, he told me he has a print out showing 168 at the flywheel 138 at the wheels, saying the engine has had a load of work done, it is very quick and pulls way round past 7k personally i stand it at 125-130 ish maybe 135 at a push,

I'm sorry mate, but on that standard inlet manifold, unless it has a turbo hidden away somewhere it wont be much over about 120 bhp at the fly.

and thats with some fairly high internal work done too - the standard inlet is just too restrictive.

it has had a lot of internal work i know that for sure, tbh i know little about tuning engines i can strip one down and rebuild it but i dnt know about tuning one, you rekon an inlet manifold should be next on the list

Definitely, or throttle bodies, but before you fit anything else, find out what has actually been done internally.
Has it had cams, pistons, rods, larger bore etc?

Thats 24 bhp over standard - sorry, but it just won't happen with the standard inlet.

so it has just cams and pulleys? depending on the spec of the cams, it will probably have approx 115-120 bhp at the moment.
and thats is definitely a standard inlet manifold.

the guy talks shit mate, i left the car with him for 2 weeks while i was working away so he could "take it upto his mates bodyshop to stick the arches back on" when i came back the arches were stuck on with no nails! definately know about the cams and pulleys, hes shown me the reciept for them.
ps, just noticed people selling inlet manifolds pretty cheap apparently adding upto 20bhp, should i go down that route or not?

You can do, but you need to check the specs on the cams. With cams and those inlet manifolds, you will gain more power but it will be right up in the top of the rev range, so not very useable power.
However, if you buy a Lexmaul inlet manifold, its much easier to fit and even though it doesn't give as much power gain in figures, its much more useable as it arrives much earlier in the rev range.
