Maybe it was only CAT D and therefore shouldnt be on the book.

Have you done the £3 hpi check to confirm it's been a CAT C?

Im an honest guy but if it's not listed as a CAT C on the V5 i wouldnt bother telling anyone and list it as normal.

It drives straight and the chances of someone HPi checking a L Reg car is very slim.

CAT C normally de-values the car by 33%

He only found out because somebody did check it, and you clearly aren't honest.

When it's a CAT C your insurance has to send the V5 to the DVLA.

You then have to re-apply for the V5 after a vic check. The DVLA then print onto the log book that the car was an insurance write off on.........etc

If it's a CAT D it's not put on the book.

if its been a cat c write off then it would of had to of had a Vehicle Identification Check but it says it hasnt had one?? its only a recent law that came in to show it on the log book about any categories

i personally wouldnt buy a cat c car as if you do claim off your insurance they pay out peanuts!
but it would of been 6yrs old so should of been reapired to a high standard. but it must of also been a fair wack to make a 6yr old m3 a cat c write off?

Is the log book legit?
Insurance find the regi and everything ok?

The VIC check is to check it's not a ringer.

Get out and match the chassis number to your docs.

If they dont match then delete your ebay add and this thread and just enjoy it while you've got it. If its dodgy it will just get taken off you and you will have nothing.

i agree, this is starting to sound bad! i would check all numbers on it etc

i remeber when i worked at a major bodyshop we had this civic type r that had been rolled badly, the bloke that bought it from us bought it for one thing only and he was happy to tell us about it! he had a civic type r which he had 'aquired' which had no plates or docs etc.

Get your facts right mate, VIC is a Vehicle Identity Check, this is carried out to check the documents, VIN numbers, Chassis stamps match-up.

A VOSA inspection is what needs to have been done, or an engineers report.

Just because its CatC doesnt mean its had a major smash, most sports/ prestige cars that have a smash are very expensive to fix, i.e. M3 bumpers, wider front wings etc..
Its just been too expensive for the insurance company to see it worthwhile fixing, so its doubtful that it would need an engineers report, unless it was structurally damaged.

VIC check is all a cat c gets done, it's just to check it's not a ringer, nothing to do with how it's been repaired.
