but thats the internet rumour. 20xe corsa can actually handle quite well. and id not use a 20xe for a 1/4 mile monster really unless i planned many thousands engine mods and lots of gas.

Nick, ive driven both tuned 1400/1600, xe's and daveys 1800

the 1800 felt so much better than the tuned 1600, and not far behind the xe

its fits perfectly in under the xe, and with a tiny bit of playing would be equal with it, with the benifit of a newer, less miles engine

as you say jr, it needs played with to equal an old engine. that says it all for me. and also suggests why its not a popular choice at all.

IMO its not popular as the engines arent out there to get in big numbers at the moment

its a change, and alot of people dontlike change, the xe combo will take some beating, but this "might" be the best alturnative so far

there is no way im going to go do a 1.8 16v conversion ive just not got the need. somehow i need to understand what its all about. as from my point of view, i dont get it at all. id like to get it though. i see what warren davey and you are saying, but, maybe ive had too many 20xe's over the years to fully get to grips with it. im maybe too oldskool for my own good in regards to vaux conversions.

Couldn't agree more, his just shows what you can do with them.
Biggest problem is that there isn't a shed of stuff availaable of the shelf yet, which would make tuning them much easier.

A lot of stuff is available and tried and tested on the c20xe which makes it easier and hassle free.

The way I see it the XE is showing its age, most of them are probably putting out no where near 150bhp anymore beacuse they have seen better days.

We need an alternative, the XEV with the girdled bottom end is an AWESOME block but the Corsa was never designed to have a big block in the bay so the next best alternative would seem to be the 1.8, it really is a good all rounder and it has loads of potential which has been proven by a few crazy people.. Theres a 1.8 Corsa C in australia running well over 500bhp with gas.

Weird, feels and looks bigger than a Corsa. Can deffo fit more in as you can fill it higher.
