I was the biggest OFP1 fanboy you could ever imagine, I put months of solid game time into that game and it's mission editor!
Picked OFP2 up on the PC this week though, careful not to let nostalgia skew my opinion of it - I'm pretty happy so far. Combat has the same feel to it, and I've got no complaints over the AI yet.
Graphics are alright, but that was never the selling point of OFP - the vastness and freedom that comes with it is worth a slight graphical downgrade.
I've just done the Cobra Pilot rescue mission, looking forward to some vehicular combat but so far - I'm impressed.

That the first level? What difficulty have you got it on? 
sayin that I had similiar problems, on level 3 there were no tanks in the town for some reason so made defending it impossible, ten when I took the airfield and shot down the enemy helicopter my helicopters were meant to come in but they didn't so meant I got raped by the tanks.. Restart of each level fixed the problem

this is such a glitchy game! 
im stuck on the fuel depot mission now
I planted the explosives and we were falling back, it made an autosave but now it spawns me without my squad and a load of spec ops on my heels...
i managed to flee and got all the way to the chopper, got in it but it wouldnt take off  sat in it and the enemy even caught up to me and then came and shot shit out of the chopper
wtf!

i cant save the pilots for some reason its started me with 1 pilot KIA on the pc btw
badly needs a patch for online play i keep getting connection errors

did you save echo squad? i found keeping them alive helped as they were in the town with the pilots when i got there

Heli on the first mission : )
Quite easy to fly them also.
Its on the beach to the east I think or maybe the west, who knows.
Use E (PC) at the front of vehicles to repair them, otherwise the engine with start and cut out and that's means its broken

I'm getting pissed off with the fuel depot, swear it's loaded wrong and glitching, pretty much those huge gas silos as you aproach from the overlook for a stealth attack are shoot throughable so once the alarm goes off enemies on the oposite side the depot are shooting through them, not to mention the bomb I planted won't destroy generator, then after running back and placing
another it still won't blow, WTF!

Okay. Don't kill anything except the steal assault guard. Then wait it out for a few mins and the other team will cause a distraction, then you can sneak(only you, leave AI where they are, or they will fuck it up), plant the explosives, run to the top of the hill with your team. Blow them, run to the chopper. Get AI to kill the enemies there or you can do it yourself, upto you.

If you're doing a sneaky mission, always set your AI's RoE (Rules of Engagement) to Return Fire or Fire on my Lead.
This will make sure they don't start popping away at people when you're trying to be subtle
I got to the Generator without getting detected, then got sloppy on my way out and just sprinted for it, got shot at a bit but then threw a dummy and ran away from the extraction zone, then doubled back to end up behind the goons following me, got to the chopper with relative ease after that.
