see if you had put a red top in you may have beaten him,i really cant see why anyone would put a std 1.8 in over a red top,the only engine i would fit apart from a red top is the 2.2.

It was just very easy for me, i wanted a conversion for as cheap as possible (without buying fucked engines or fake bits) and the 1.8 seemed the option at the time, but then i killed a engine and a gearbox.

Im gonna take a wild guess and say insurance probably hasnt changed seeing as the V5 hasnt been changed.Still down as a 1.2 so probably still insured as a 1.2 tut tut.

Not really, they have no torque at all, just proper shit engines, my 1.8 Mondeo was quicker off the lights until the Vectra got going (Brothers got the same vec as I had)

maybe yours was just a sht engine, and like i said it would be different in a corsa where you don't need lots of torque.i bet a corsa with a 2.2 in wouldn't be far behind a red top corsa.

For me was cheaper putting a 1.8 than the 1.6 corsa sport engine in insurance wise.

For me the engine and whole parts together cost about £300

That's with the whole thing coming from a 1999 vauxhall vectra LS with 48500 on it.

Course I bought other bits in between as I mis-bought some of my components as i'm a dull c**t which you can blatantly see in my progress thread (which as yet fails to see an actual car) but I feel that for people NOT wanting a redtop but wanting a good alternative to a tuned 1.6 should consider a 1.8

Though I have recently thought about a rear engined RWD 2.2

seems the 1800 is far more hassle than its worth. all the conversions seem not to go smoothly, and the engines themselves seem to blow up constantly. i mean if thats not a good enough advert that theyre a bad conversion compared to the tried ans trusted xe i dont know what is.

Only reason mine didn't go 100% was cause I didn't buy the "WHOLE" thing and I thought the 1400CC fuel pump would work when it didn't.

Other than that went fine

But the 1,8 from a vectra was approx £80 cheaper than a 1.6 from a corsa sport for me
