I also do not want to wear a shirt and tie every day I'd have to buy some ties and learn how to put them on.

Not wearing a suit is one of the best things about this job.

Will its quite good way to work, i looked into it and a few friends do it, no worries of paperwork, whether your going to get your money etc and you can claim expenses for anything and everything (food, fuel, anything you buy etc) and it becomes tax deductable so you see more in your pocket.
Not trying to sell it to you, but its worth taking into consideration.

I can get away with a lot I must admit, but for me thats not what works about.
I wouldn't mind earning a huge wage, but with huge wages comes huge responsibility, and less "home play" time and more "work stress" time.
I work to live, not live to work.
Thats not to say that since i've given up bob (2 months now!!!! After 9 years practically every day), i've got more drive and more want to learn new skills. Hence why im learning this VM and Serv 08 stuff, set up my first mini network etc etc..
Ironically, whilst i did enjoy bob, I do now think its kinda help waste a few good years of my life, but at least its mellowed me down and I only get REALLLLLY excitable (OJC will understand ) when im doing the really good stuff in life
Im trying to learn things now I should have learnt a few years ago, which should move me up the ladder, but thats why i need a new place, to get a completly fresh start, someone who will actually invest in some training for me instead of leaving me dangling with failed promises of training.

Wait till the job market picks up in a year or 2 then.
TBH i walked out of a very well paying job with brilliant perks and people, and was able to find something else (admittedly at the start with a slight drop in pay) but then worked up and in 3 months back on what i was on. Just try it, you have no *real* financial commitments as you said, so why not take the risk. Worst scenario is your out of work for a month or so.

Try doing it 8 times then...
Plus all the failed interviews, or 2nd interviews etc....
Its scary, but i've always looked forward to the new challange, meeting the new people who (hopefully) were into the same things as me.
Just a shame its never gone that way
I've just always been worried that the new employer would feel let down. But so far thats me me instead.

Cant wait 2 years man! The job market is different in different special areas!
Daimo - i know exactly what you mean but about 2 years ago I got ALOAD of responsiblity, making sure systems are up and running 24/7, responding to weekend alerts and the same, its just about being prepared and doing everything in your power not to come into the office at the weekend or after hours - in an ideal world I'd like to work in a team.

This thread is interesting.
Other IT people sharing their thoughts on their jobs, responsibilities, what they want, what they got and such.

for the last 3 years in this job i've been comfortable, but recently its started pissing me off. i don't know what it is though, whether i truly want to move or whether its the fact that every year i get really pissed off with work and want time off. It normally happens mid november and i have to wait til christmas. however this year its struck earlier and i fear i'm going to be slitting my wrists by that time
