Did we need him last night though? He has been out for months and months and hasn't been fit enough to feature in any run of games. Benitez is introducing him slowly, i'm quite happy for him to do that to make sure he doesn't end up injured again.

How is he going to get fit unless he plays? Its not like he is even playing him for 30-40 mins. He gets put on at the end for 10 mins or so

TBH they wanted to use him in reserve games but their just havent been any in the last month or more which didnt clash with the first team - hence why he is only getting the small amount of minutes.

tbh its a different situation as Keane never came on the back of 9 months out, so not really a comparison you can make.

I also doubt you'd see Fergie rushing anyone back after so long out (Hargreaves anyone?).

Yes but hargreaves isn't even training with the team yet because he's not ready

Toothpaste made his debut 40+ days ago and still doesnt get on

Also what does it matter if reserve games clash with first team ones, getting 70mins into him in the reserves is alot better than the last ten mins in the prem

Im not saying Hargreaves should be playing now, Im saying when Hargreaves is coming back he'll be eased in to it just as slowly as Aquilani has been by Rafa.

You just dont rush back a player who has had an injury that has constantly reoccurred (he has been out constantly over the last 2-3yrs with this).

And my comments about the reserves is that Rafa wanted (he has said this in an interview) to give him game time for the reserves where he could run about and not have to put a foot in for a tackle - then he could get the 60+ min in games. But he also wants him in and around the first team games so he can be on the bench, travel with the team, learn how the play and get the 10mins or whatever of time on the pitch getting used to the English style.
