Compared to a bike or anything its not 'fast' granted but for 85% of people, its more than fast enough for the road I reckon.

I'd like to test drive a new Astra even if it is a 5 door though. The interior looks lovely - million miles better than the old Astra/current 3 door which is pretty nasty tbh.

people who say nothing is fast usually own the slowest car of them all, or one that is in pieces

Thats it, the Golf R..

So Antee, thats over £11,000 more expensive for the Golf

Thats practically a brand new car by itself

Andy, thats why i said what I think, peoples definitions of fast are different. Some will go into a 1.6 corsa and think its fast, others will take a lot more. Depends what you've been in/on Will always be different.

Not sat inside a Mk6, but from the pictures it doesn't look too dis-similar from the Insignia, which is a slight improvement in the overal dash, but I don't think Vauxhall have upped the quality of the materials yet.

But tbh, thats a good thing, it keeps the cost down to a more "sensible" level (Que £40,000 VW Golfs )

So we're all agreed that a Golf is better than an Astra VXR

Yep. I'd take the Golf and spend the saving on some new wheels.

You are all deluded, I suggest you drive them back to back.

Mk6 Golf GTi is complete and utter wank.

If a VXR is as slow as a boxed 1.9cdti I'd rather have a gold 1.9sdi.

Daimo, the R isnt the eqivilent golf to the vxr, the R is about a second quicker to 60. The gti is much closer in performance terms and its 2wd like the vxr

the r32 is the same 0-60 at the astra vxr so the r32 would be comparable to the vxr. the gti is almost a second slower to 60 therefore isn't really comparable.

Exactly, when I had my 1.6 sport I thought it was a fairly fast car, two things that changed my mind "boring" family cars with diesel engines were easily as quick, then when I went out in my mates near on 400bhp skyline, i ended up selling it because it felt slooooow after that .

No comparison, S3 or R32 pisses all over the VXR! And for VXR owners, especially the ones that own those bodged jobbed 'Burg editions, to try and compare their shit heaps to these beauties, it's just unreal!!

Sorry is that for real????

So a £30k car is suprisingly better quality than a £20k car?

No sh1t, who's the smart people working that one out

I spec'd up a golf 2.0 268bhp the other day. £35k.... For a f**king VW Golf. I'd EXPECT it to be far superior in terms of quality AND performance. Shame it only has the quality. But im still trying to find where £15,000 has gone in quality of the VW over the vauxhall......

An R32 really is nothing special, thats why its being phased out. Likewise with the 3.2 A3, what a pointless shed of a car

front end heavy, all noise no go, not fast really, but indeed the plastics and interior are better. Just not £15k better

You better get one of these to remove that hook you got!
