If I earnt 100k a year I would buy a mk5 Ford Fiesta Zetec-S in Imperial Blue with aircon.

I might tweak the engine a little but keep everything else standard (apart from the rust)

100k is a lot of money - yes. Some folk are not understanding what i'm trying to say.

Houses, cars etc are also LOTS of money. You cant really find a house for 50k these days can you!

Simply earning 100k a year doesnt mean you're suddenly rolling in it

You still have other things in your life.

Its simply follows the fashion of the more you earn - the more you spend. (unless you are a miserable gimp

)

I prob still have the same amount of spare cash that I had when I was earning 30k for example.

To be able to buy a Gallardo without finance, and run it, and live in a house (that isnt a cooncil house) costs more than 100k a year BEFORE tax.

i'd spend a year living in a tent, then i would have £100k outright, maybe £90k, then i would look at getting a house and car, the mystery kids that appear can gtf and live in the tent, i don't know who they are anyway

I said it's a lot of money, just not Lambo money. I know a guy that ran a 360 on 100k a year, the gearbox needed replacing to the tune of £20k and he had to sell it.

I'd probably get myself an Audi S5 coupe on finance over a couple of years, and something like a newish Mondeo estate for transporting stuff around in.

I'd also get the Cougar totally rebuilt and have uprated parts fitted/nicer interior/probably a V8 installed as well

This is pretty much what I was trying to say, I just worded it really badly

Your lifestyle adjusts to suit your salary, I've had pretty significant payrises moving between jobs and found that within a couple of months, I'm left with the same amount each month as I'm going out for lunch/dinner more and spending more on gadgets etc...

£100k would be a lot if you were 18 living at home though

If I were in my current stage of life though and started earning that much, I'd probably get something like an RS4 (after sorting out a nice house and plenty of holidays first).

It's not just that though, when you go shopping you look at things differently.

For example, shopping for furniture. Someone on £25k might go to somewhere like Ikea, where someone on £100k would more likely go to places like Hulsta Studio, Heals or Habitat.

Probably not the best example TBH.

Also if you are earning around 100k + a year its very much going to dictate where you live, so this is where the increase in living expenses come from.

There is truth in what Adio is saying too. I managed to run an ///M3 on 20k. Its relevant what you spend your money on, i live at home, dont smoke, dont drink or spend £200 a weekend getting blotto. Id rather have a nice car.

Yeah that's the thing isn't it. The more people earn, the more they spend... the more expensive things they buy etc - and thus they still aren't feeling 'super rich'.

It's similar to the way people don't understand why most business owners who end up making millions, don't just make a million and close down business.

It's been such a long road getting to earning that money, such hard work - that their business has become their life and why would they now (when they're succeeding) would they want to pack it up.

In other words - the chances are, by the time you get to the position in life where you are earning £100k/year - you're going to make the most of it and live the high life, rather than being frugal.
