which surely means driving on public roads is more challenging, even when not pushing to the cars limit?

more risky yes, more technically challenging no as you cant take the right lines or push it as hard

taking one corner with good visibility in no way compares to consistantly lapping a track where every corner needs perfect timing and positioning and braking

perhaps if the road were closed and you were driving it like a rally

doing a track day is completely different to doing an actual race. every corner doesn't actually need to be perfect on a track day, you're not chasing lap times.

I think Steve is confusing getting the perfect lap in with having fun. Things don't have to be perfect to have fun.

Stevens right and I have to agree with the imbecile.

Far to many risks on roads and far too many consequences if it goes wrong.

Save that type of driving for on a track(or a troll road if your names John).

Every single time I press on these days on a road I always wonder what it would be like to read a story about me in the paper driving irresponsibly and having killed myself / someone else / some wildlife or closed a busy road for a large recovery job which cost the tax payer loads of money.

At least at a track no one will judge you too much for coming off and there's a recovery truck right there. Road you would be in the very least interviewed by Police, face charges even if no one was injured, media would have a picnic, blah blah.

You can still appreciate the road but it's nothing at all like doing it in a controlled environment.
