whats involved?

Not too hard, there's a few around.

Manifold, Td04L turbo and some sort of management (a few around if you google it, already with looms) 200bhp or so can be done on standard internals as said above.

the 1.3 is the better bet tbh.

why is the 1.3 better?
and it has forged internals?
and talking circa 1997 - 2001 models/.

will the transmission and drivetrian take the power?

the mentioned models will only have 6v/8v engines.

GTi engines are 16v, Like I mentioned before, forged pistons and crank.

Weak point of Gearbox is second gear synchroniser, I had the problem with the first gearbox I bought.

There are couple of guys now that can make a "log" turbo manifold. Not much as making money, but to forum users.

GTi engine code is G13B. The 1.6l engines don't have forged items.

I found the engine to be easy to work with, parts are easy to get, sometimes you do need to pay premium though. A lot of parts fit from other models ( rotor arm came from some Hyundai for example)

Revs to 8k standard

Also non GTi models will not have any roll bars. Front one is easy to fit from a GTi. Later GTi roll bars are 22mm IIRC, straight fit. For rear you need some fabrication but really easy to fit one.

You can fit a GTi engine into a Justy. Wiring is a pain, unless of course you use complete gti car loom

Completely different engines as far as I know.

Eck, that engine was first produced in 1984 or there about, and not really changed for 10 years.

I'm pretty tempted by a Rover 200 BRM, they're dirt cheap, have a LSD from the factory, you could strip the interior and sell it and put it towards buckets, and harness. The you'll have 2k change to do then suspension, brakes and breathing mods. Oh and do the head gasket.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-200-1-8-BRM-LE-Ltd-Edn-red-leather-REDUCED-795-/260868226662?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3cbcf53e66

All the suspension is very Honda looking, so independent at the rear. More than likely own by an oldie, so it's had a easy life.

Think I've decided on a Saxo VTS. Can get a fairly OK one for around a grand with 60k ish miles and that will leave me plenty of cash to do the other bits I want to do like cage, tyres, suspension, brakes etc. All the bits seem to be cheap for these and they seem fairly reliable too!

Anything I need to look out for? Bear in mind Im only really worried about mechanicals and body as most other stuff will be getting binned! Even going to go down the polycarb window kit (only £140)

How light do you think I can get one of these?

Cheers for all your help all!

Cheers Steve,

Im guessing you can get the boxes reconned pretty cheap? I reckon I should be able to drop a box in a Saxo to save a few quid if need be.

What problem does the rear axle have?
