Unfortunately not, the smallest one is the epaulette shark but even that would grow too big for a tank this size at adult length. This tank isn't far off being big enough for one, but the rock work isn't really suitable, plus they might eat a lot of the smaller fish and the clean up crew.

Yeah that's true.

The scale of the project is astonishing, the sump, the trench you had to dig etc.
Made me appreciate how much 'behind the scenes work' goes into tanks like this.

Cheers guys :-) Yeah it would have been so much easier (and cheaper!) to just have the sump under the tank but at the end of the day it's something that you have to live with for a long time and that takes up a lot of space in the main living area of the house, so anything that can be done to keep the mess to a minimum in the house and make the maintenance easier is definitely going to be worth it long term :-)

I'm also picking up one of these at the end of the month;
They aren't particular expensive fish but are notoriously difficult to keep - I've managed to find a specimen that is coming from a tank closure, he eats all food and even hand feeds seaweed so hopefully he will be happy in his new home. I'm also in the process of setting up a quarantine tank for the rest of the new additions but the moorish idol would more than likely die in quarantine so I am taking an educated risk by putting him straight into the display tank

Have you got the full collection from the dentist's office in Finding Nemo?
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

No not quite, but I do have a cleaner shrimp and an orchid dottyback that looks quite a look like the Royal Gramma but without the yellow tail. Stocking plans are;
Engineer Goby (looks and swims just like an eel but it it's a fish and 100% reef safe)
Quoyi Parrotfish (still not 100% decided on this - they are supposed to be the only reef safe parrotfish but I'm waiting to see how two other new keepers get on first!)
Yellow tailed fang blenny
Longhorn Cowfish
A few clown gobies
Powder Blue Tang
We have 3 of these at the moment but want around 15 in total to form a nice shoal.
and possibly a mated pair of crosshatch triggerfish as a showpiece fish (well, pair) but they won't be going in in the foreseeable future cos I need to save up for them first

I would absolutely love a tank like this at 1 point in my life.
We have a decent sized tank just now in work I spend half my day watching but this blows it out the water (no pun intended)

If you do a bit more research you will see that there is very little truth in the threat of tank wipe outs (not that the myths are COMPLETELY unfounded, but there is very very little risk of it actually happening)

Here's "Manni" in his new home :-)
I also picked up 2 Hector's gobies, 20 snails, 10 crabs, a green plating montipora and a nice blue maxima clam. I'll get some pictures up tomorrow :-)

Out I intrest how much are those fish you posted pics of especially the pair that'll be your showpiece? Used to keep tropical fish but have no idea the price on marine?

They would be around £1500 for a mated pair, but I would say the average cost of marine fish is around £40 to £100 (although those tiny Allen's damsels that I want to get a shoal of are only £8 each)

Do marine fish breed at all in communal type tanks?

It depends on the species (and obviously the water quality too) but yes some do. The main problem is though that the fry get eaten by the other fish, so if you want to actually breed the fish then a lot of human intervention is needed.

The first good picture of 'Archie' the Atlantic Blue Tang that I've taken in ages, he's grown so much since we first got him as a juvenile!
The Moorish Idol is settled in well already and is hand feeding nori and eating all the frozen food :-)
and a red plating montipora that has seeded itself in the tank
